I have been telling John for a couple of months now how I wanted to go check out the Stuttgart City Library because it had made a couple of lists on being one of the world’s coolest libraries. There was really no excuse not to check it out – it’s a mere 9-minute U-bahn ride from our house, and I’ve been to the brand new mall right next to it on multiple occasions without going into the library. But, today, I sidetracked and saw first hand why it’s made the list of impressive libraries (see here and here and here).
The inner cube – the stairwell is on the outside with the various rooms on each floor.

These are the upper floors of the library, again with the stairwell and various rooms on the outside of this interior.
The number of different languages here, English included, is amazing!
A view of the different languages offered.
This interior is definitely photogenic!
Of course this library doesn’t do just vending machines…there is a proper cafe…with a salad bar!
The library also offers an outside walkway on each level for great views of the city, as well as a rooftop terrace.
The entrance to the new mall right across the square.
Looking toward downtown.
The Stuttgart hills.
A selfie on the way out!
It was as cool as the all of the lists it made suggested…and a fun way to spend a laid-back afternoon!
